About IASSID

The International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disabilities is the first and only world-wide group dedicated to the scientific study of intellectual disability.

Founded in 1964 as the International Association for the Scientific Study of Mental Deficiency, IASSID is an international, interdisciplinary and scientific non-governmental organization which promotes worldwide research and exchange of information on intellectual disabilities. IASSID has official relations with the World Health Organization.

IASSID sponsors regular World Congresses and Regional Conferences. The next World Congress will be held in Halifax, Canada in July 2012.

Consider joining IASSID. Privileges of membership include reduced rates at IASSID events, participation in up to five of IASSID's Special Interest Research Groups (SIRGs), free subscription to the Journal of Policy and Practice in Intellectual Disabilities and reduced-rate subscription to the Journal of Intellectual Disability Research.
