    The IASSIDD Asia-Pacific 3rd Regional Conference in Tokyo, Japan on August 22-24, 2013 will be held in conjunction with the 48th Annual Conference of the Japanese Association for the Study of Developmental Disabilities August 24 -25.

    Multiformity and diversity: Combining individual care and community-based supports

    Participants in the upcoming international conference will represent a variety of fields, such as psychology, medicine, special education, and vocational rehabilitation. Methods of care or support for individuals with developmental disabilities can vary greatly depending on the participants’ specialty. Their interests may cover all the ages from infancy to late adulthood. Therefore, we have selected “Multiformity and diversity: Combining individual care and community-based supports” as the main theme of the conference. Expert ideas and opinions will be showcased in keynote lectures, symposia, and oral and poster presentations.

    IASSID ACADEMY Workshop Program for Halifax - Please read all content below before going further.

    The IASSID ACADEMY has announced its schedule of workshops to be held in conjunction with the 14th World Congress of the IASSID.  The workshop program was developed by the Academy, in consultation with various IASSID bodies and local constituent organizations.  The Academy working with IASSID colleagues has put together an exciting series of workshops involving international speakers on a variety of emergent and critical issues for the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.  This provides organizations and individuals the opportunity to participate in this unique series of educational experiences – led by leaders in the field.

    The IASSID ACADEMY will offer twelve workshops, three on Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 13:00 to 16:30, and nine on Monday, July 9, 2012 from 08:30 to 12:00 and from 12:30 to 15:30.  The cost per workshop is US $50 prior to MAY 20th and US $60 after MAY 20th.   Registration is open and can be made via this website – to register.

    Registration

    Anyone is eligible to register for one or more of the workshops being offered.  Registration for the workshops is independent of registration for the IASSID Congress.  Local and regional agencies and organizations in the Nova Scotia and environs are particularly encouraged to register staff and students.  A special day registration group rate is available for Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland agencies or organizations, with one gratis registration provided for every five persons registered and paid for by any one agency or organization.  For special group registration arrangements and payments contact Prof. Roy Brown, the Academy Director at [email protected].   A limited number of family scholarships will be available.  Family members wishing to enquire about these are advised to contact Prof. Brown.  Workshop registrations are limited to 35 registrants.     Certification

    Certificates of attendance will be issued for each workshop completed.  Certificates are issued by the IASSID Academy on Education, Teaching and Research and are allotted for 3.5 credit hours equivalence of in-service training or continuing education.

    Disclaimer

    The IASSID Academy reserves the right to cancel any workshops that are undersubscribed or to hold double sessions of any workshops that are overly subscribed.  Information on such situations will be provided at least 14 days prior to the date of the workshop.  In the event a workshop is cancelled, registrants will have the option of choosing another workshop or being reimbursed for their payment.

    About the World Congress
    IASSID is partnering with AAIDD, the oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization of professionals and citizens concerned about intellectual and developmental disabilities and AUCD, a membership organization that supports and promotes a national network of university-based interdisciplinary programs. As well, RTC, the Research and Training Center on Community Living which provides support to those persons with developmental disabilities to live full, productive and integrated lives in their communities, will be joining its two partner organizations listed above. The Congress will also coincide with the State of the Science sessions held at the connecting Prince George hotel.
